The Duchess of Cornwall is mourning one of her best friends after her death at the age of 83.
Mary Christie, chatelaine of Glyndebourne, died on Thursday after a cancer battle.
Camilla, who is at Birkhall in Scotland with husband Prince Charles, told the Daily Mail: "Mary was a life enhancer who will be sorely missed by many people from all walks of life."
And the Duchess, from Plumpton in East Sussex, continued: "That special corner of Sussex, where we all grew up, will not be the same without Mary's warmth and laughter."
She was married to Sir George Christie, who ran Glyndebourne Opera House. In an online tribute, son Gus wrote: My dear mother passed away peacefully at home in the early hours of yesterday morning after a long and courageous battle.
“She will be remembered, in the words of my late father, as ‘the heartbeat which is at the core of Glyndebourne’s existence’.
“Her devotion to Glyndebourne, and in particular her love of the gardens, has enriched the lives of so many of us. “She will be missed by her children, grandchildren and extended family and we will dedicate Festival 2021 to her memory.”
