Meghan Markle has sponsored a dog kennel in her son Archie's name, the duchess revealed in a letter for British animal charity Mayhew. After becoming the charity's first royal patron in January 2019, Meghan has maintained her connection to Mayhew even after she and Prince Harry left the royal family in March 2020.
Now she has written a foreword for the group's annual report, which was released last week, revealing that she renewed her sponsorship of a dog kennel in Archie's name.
The royal tot, who turned one on May 6, is reportedly close with Meghan and Harry's two dogs, who moved with the family to Los Angeles after they quit the monarchy.
It makes sense then that Meghan, who has long been a vocal supporter of animal welfare, would choose such a sweet way to honour her passion and her little boy.
The Duchess also addressed the coronavirus pandemic in her letter for Mayhew, following reports that she has been supporting the charity as it struggles financially due to the crisis.
"As I write, the COVID-19 crisis is gripping every country in the world and destabilising the lives of countless families across the UK," she said, via Vanity Fair.
"I am proud of how Mayhew have responded by finding new ways to support animals and people in these uncertain times. What I am even prouder of is that Mayhew's mission was made for moments like these. It's not just about cats and dogs; it's about all of us, about our ability to come together as a community."
The charity works to keep homeless people in the UK with their dogs, whom they often rely on for emotional support while without a home.
Usually Mayhew relies on fundraising events to sustain the charity, but since the COVID-19 lockdown has made these events practically impossible, the group have been struggling financially.
Donations from the public have also slowed as people across the UK are left out of work or struggling with their own finances due to the pandemic.
It has left the organisation unsure about its future and how it will continue to aid those it supports.
Though it's not clear if Meghan has been supporting the charity financially, she has always been a vocal animal lover and has put her support behind Mayhew before.
