‘Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist’ season 2 confirmed at NBC

Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist is returning to the small screen for its second season. NBC recently announced the renewal.

Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist is a musical comedy-drama TV series on NBC. Created by Austin Winsberg, the show first aired on January 7, 2020.

The last episode of the first season ended in May and since then, fans have been wondering about its renewal.

Fortunately, the show starring Jane Levy as Zoey Clarke is returning to bring more episodes of Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist. Its home network announced on Thursday, June 11, that it has given the green light for a season 2.

The details

According to Deadline, the musical dramedy will have an extra episode on the sophomore run. Season 1 only had a total of 12 episodes but it’s said that season 2 will come with 13 episodes.

This is in favor for all the fans who have been wanting to see more of the series. Apparently, the Lionsgate TV and Universal TV production had been considered “the strongest contender among NBC’s bubble shows this season.”

It has formed a passionate fan base and even garnered the top spot on USA Today’s annual Save Our Shows poll. It also beat NBC’s other musical freshman comedy Perfect Harmony, which has now been canceled after the first season.

"We were overwhelmed by the number of people who fell in love with ‘Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist' and how much joy it brought to everyone," said Lisa Katz and Tracey Pakosta, co-presidents of scripted programming for NBC Entertainment.

She then went on to say that they are excited to bring it back. As of the moment, details regarding the plot, premiere date, and casting are still kept under wraps.

There is no definite date yet on when they will start shooting especially since the world still continues to battle the pandemic. However, the main cast members are most likely going to return.

Aside from Levy, the show stars Skylar Astin as Max, Alex Newell as Mo, John Clarence Stewart as Simon, Peter Gallagher as Mitch Clarke, Mary Steenburgen as Maggie Clarke and Lauren Graham as Joan.

The series plot

Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist follows the life of Zoey, who works as a computer coder in San Francisco. She’s the type who prefers listening to podcasts than pop songs.

But after an unusual event, she suddenly started hearing the innermost wants, thoughts and desires of the people surrounding her. Not with words though, but through popular songs.

She thought she was going crazy at first but she later found help from her musically-inclined neighbor Mo. She then realized that the unwanted curse can be a wonderful gift in connecting to her family, co-workers and even complete strangers.

Stay tuned for more updates on Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist season 2.
